TITHE FARM CANDIDATES
NATHAN JENKINS
Nathan has lived in Houghton Regis for just over a year. He is an IT tech support engineer by day and enjoys taking on DIY projects, music, video gaming and gardening. Nathan believes that with the current cost of living crisis, it is important now more than ever to help local people and charities. He would also like to help support more local diverse leisure and recreational facilities.
WILLIAM HENDERSON
William has lived in Houghton Hall for the past 5 years and now calls it his home. He is proud to have worked for the NHS for the past 6 years in a non-clinical role first at the local Hospital, Luton and Dunstable and now in London. He would like to see more investment in the NHS and social care locally especially as the town grows with all our new neighbours moving into the HRN developments. William would like to push for improvements to local public transport and active travel to allow others like him who do not drive to get around their community cheaply and safely.
ABBY SLOUGH
Being the youngest elected Councillor in Houghton Regis, Abby has enjoyed the last 4 years serving Tithe Farm as a Town Councillor. She has lived in Houghton Regis all her life and feels strongly about making Houghton a safe and enjoyable place to live. She is a qualified teacher and works in a local Special Educational Needs and Disabilities school. Alongside this, Abby is a school Governor at a local Tithe Farm school. In her spare time, Abby enjoys Graphic Design work and has been able to help local organisations with this. A keen sportsperson herself, Abby was pleased to help with the development of the new Tithe Farm recreation facility and she believes the Town Council should promote a healthy lifestyle for all.
CHRIS SLOUGH
Chris has lived in Houghton Regis for over 35 years. He taught local young people during this time, retiring as a senior teacher in a local upper school. He now supports the 1st/3rd Houghton Regis scout group and is church warden at All Saints. Concerned about the rise in homelessness, Chris became a Trustee of Signposts, our local homeless charity, when he retired. As an ex Town Mayor and Town Councillor for Tithe Farm he has particularly enjoyed being on the Events working group for the last eight years, helping to organise the Carnival and Houghton Rocks. Chris enjoys gardening and his two border collies take him for walks around our wonderful open spaces, which he believes to be important for our quality of life. His message to the CBC is: “leave our open spaces alone”.
ABDUL IDEM
Abdul is a law graduate who has lived in Houghton Regis for 14 years. He has worked in various roles in the community; most notably as a porter at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital during the height of the COVID19 pandemic and as a teaching assistant at St Vincent’s Primary school. He is currently a tax consultant. He is passionate about community and looks to ensure that the needs of the community are put first in all instances. Being passionate about the needs of the community, he realises the importance of open spaces and leisure facilities.
PARKSIDE CANDIDATES
CLARE COPLESTON
Clare is a successful multi-awarding winning businesswoman and previous Houghton Regis Mayor, who is passionate and committed to empowering local people while creating a movement of fairness, opportunity and compassion. As Mayor of Houghton Regis 2021- 2022 Clare said " it was the biggest honour and privilege of my life to serve as the people's Mayor of Houghton Regis." Clare made a huge impact during her Mayoral year, building positive, engaging relationships with all mayors across the county, while raising the profile of our town including being chosen to appear on a New York prime-time TV talk show promoting the best of Houghton Regis and how our Mayoral role here in England differs from the role in America. Clare raised £2,400 for her chosen charities - The Fire Fighters Charity and SSAFA supporting veterans and armed forces family members. Clare has a wealth of knowledge and experience working in the community, providing mental health support, suicide prevention, and working on many projects, services and initiatives to prevent serious youth violence, radicalisation and exploitation.
CHLOE ALDERMAN
Chloe lives locally and is a qualified secondary English teacher with experience in Mainstream and Special Education Needs schools. She is presently studying a Creative Writing Masters while self-employed as a cleaner. Chloe is a keen walker and can frequently be spotted walking her two rambunctious Spaniels. She admires Houghton Regis’ pride and community spirit and is keen to protect the open spaces within its residential areas. Chloe is a big believer in guiding the youth of today to become the citizens of tomorrow and hopes to help cultivate the community’s spirit within the next generation. Facilitating young people to plan and implement community improvement projects like public art and community clean-up will not only begin this process, but also nurture invaluable skills for their future.
HOUGHTON HALL CANDIDATES
EMMA BILLINGTON
Having lived in the Houghton Hall ward all her life, Emma is keen to make Houghton Regis a safe, peaceful and caring place to live. As a qualified teacher, Emma has taught in local schools for the last nine years and has volunteered with Groundwork as an Independent Visitor. She has a young daughter and wants to ensure that she has the ability to grow up in a thriving community. In her spare time, Emma enjoys playing Badminton and is a member of Houghton Regis Badminton Club. She also enjoys walking her cocker spaniel, Lola, around Houghton Hall Park. She has previously attended Town Council Meetings to contribute as a citizen as she believes it is important that the people should have their say over decisions that are happening to their town.
CARL WILLIAMS
Carl has lived in Dunstable for over ten years, with his wife and four children. Two have now flown the nest. Carl has worked for over 30 years in social care and the last 15 years in homelessness housing and addiction. He also supported the local community through the pandemic and the current financial crisis with voluntary picking up food parcels, sorting out packs, and delivering to the doors of people in Central Bedfordshire and Luton. Every Friday for over two years, Carl has been dropping food and flowers to Luton and Dunstable A&E department to support our struggling NHS staff. Carl is very keen to become your Labour Town Councillor so he can continue to make positive changes to people's lives.
