Houghton Hall Ward
Having taught in local schools for 35 years, Chris retired as an Assistant headteacher of Queensbury School. He cares passionately about education, helping out with local school assemblies and being Vice Chair of Governors at Tithe Farm Primary. Chris is a trustee and Director of Signposts, the homeless charity. He says those who have fallen on hard times deserve a chance to start over. People have so much to offer, as he regularly discovers when meeting and getting to know clients. He worships at All Saints in the centre of town. Chris enjoyed his term as Town Mayor and believes that we must promote our town and embrace the exciting developments that come our way. He has enjoyed the past 4 years on the town council especially on the working groups responsible for the town events such as the Carnival, Houghton Rocks and the fireworks in Tithe Farm.
Alex recently stood in the Houghton Hall by-election falling just 8 votes short of being elected. He is a Managing Director of a local Aerial Drone Imagery company. He and his family have a long association with Houghton Regis having successfully managed AFC Dunstable and FC Houghton, reaching the National Cup Final at Villa Park. He believes national and Central Bedfordshire austerity cuts have hugely affected the community he cares so much about.
Whilst working as a healthcare assistant in the Luton and Dunstable hospital, Jonathon came to realise the importance of the local health service to the residents of Houghton Regis. He is now a full time carer, so readily understands the daily challenges of living with a disability. He is already the housing representative and local residents have found Jonathon to be a reliable, helpful and approachable person.
Syed has been a resident of Houghton Regis for many years. He works in London as a Management Consultant. With a young family he is interested in improving facilities for children and if elected he will press for more action to counter low level anti-social behaviour.
Susie has lived locally for 16 years with her husband and twins having moved from London. She has run her own Designer Draping business in the events industry since 1994 which has taken her all over the world on many high profile events. She enjoys walking her dog in Houghton Hall Park and the quarry so is keen to promote these places as much as possible. She has enjoyed the variety of animals that have been seen to return to the quarry in particular Red Kites.
Barnes guarantees that he will support the residents of Houghton Hall in any way he can. He has been involved with Shelter and has experience of dealing with a range of housing issues. The NHS is also dear to his heart and will campaign to keep adequate local provision in the town.
